I check every product specification on Clear Air Living against a published source before it goes on a page, and each page names that source so you can check it too.
Topics Covered
The guides deal with wildfire smoke and outdoor pollution, allergies, pets, bedroom air and small homes. A purifier that suits a 200-square-foot bedroom is rarely right for an open-plan apartment, so each guide stays with one situation.
Product Facts and Health Questions
I write about what a purifier measures (CADR, filter type, coverage area and noise) and leave questions about symptoms or treatment to your doctor.
How Products Are Evaluated
Clear Air Living evaluates each product through a structured analysis of its published specifications and standards-based performance data, such as AHAM-verified clean air delivery rates, filter ratings, and coverage area. The first check is a purifier’s CADR against the size of the room, using room-sizing guidance from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and ASHRAE. The filter comes second: whether it is true HEPA, and how much activated carbon it carries for odors. After that I look at noise at the fan speed you would leave on, and at what replacement filters cost over time.
My default source for specifications is the manufacturer’s own site, and an outside noise reading is credited to whoever took it. Prices come from retailer listings and change often; the tilde in front of each one means it is approximate. Where a page touches on health, the link goes to a primary source such as the EPA or the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
The Technical Score
Those four checks produce a technical score from 0 to 5, weighted identically for every product and explained in full on the About page. The score ranks specifications only; your room’s layout and the source of the pollution still decide how well any unit does at home.
Affiliate Links
The site earns a commission when you buy through one of its links, and your price stays the same (the Affiliate Disclosure has the details). Every guide lists the drawbacks of the products it recommends, and no manufacturer sees a page before it is published.
Who Writes the Site
Everything here is written by one person with a PhD in the life sciences and more than sixteen years of work as a researcher and educator. I publish without a byline; the About page explains why.
Updates and Corrections
When a manufacturer replaces a model or filter, or a listed price moves, I revise the page and change the date at the top. If you spot an error, write to contact@clearairliving.com or use the Contact page, and I will correct it on the page itself.
